Organic Peroxide Wastewater Treatment Process

Understanding the organic peroxide wastewater treatment process

Organic peroxides are a type of specialty chemical product with a wide range of uses in fine chemicals. Their varieties and properties directly determine the grade, properties, and application fields of target materials. They can be used as initiators for synthetic resins, vulcanizing agents for rubber, modifiers for resins, and oxidants for organic synthesis. They have been widely used in synthetic industries such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, and polyester, as well as other industries. Overall, the products are mainly used in three major synthetic materials such as polymers, rubber industry, automotive industry, daily necessities industry, new building materials industry, fuel additives, pharmaceutical intermediates, solar cell panels, etc. Organic peroxide products can be divided into solid, semi-solid, and liquid forms. 90% of the products in this project are liquid peroxides. They can be classified according to storage temperature as normal-temperature and low-temperature products and according to solvents as solvent-based and water-emulsion types.

The commonly used wastewater treatment processes include coagulation and sedimentation, hydrolysis and acidification, A/O, air flotation, ozone catalytic oxidation, etc. Although these processes are very mature for the treatment of organic peroxide wastewater, with the increasing demand for environmental protection in recent years, especially the increasingly strict total salt discharge standards, could not meet the goal of standard discharge of salt index by using traditional processes. The development of polyester organic peroxide wastewater treatment technology is one of the important technologies to promote the development of this industry, which can effectively ensure the standard discharge of organic matter and salt in wastewater and realize the resource utilization of salt.

What should be noted when using organic peroxides?

  • When using organic peroxides, they should be strictly executed according to the process conditions specified in the operating procedures.

  • When the units use organic peroxides that need to be temperature-controlled (cooled), they should not be removed from the temperature control facility for more than 30 minutes.

  • The place where organic peroxides are used should be equipped with video monitoring equipment and connected to a hazardous chemical source tracing system to automatically monitor and record the usage to prevent loss.

  • The place where organic peroxides are used should be marked with hazardous chemical safety signs, safety data sheets, and safety operation procedures, and necessary emergency equipment and personal protective equipment such as fire extinguishers and vermiculite should also be provided as required.

  • If units use a pumping system and pipelines to transport organic peroxides in production operations, they should communicate with organic peroxide suppliers to develop safe operating plans.
